The Pointed Pen: Dependent On Food
I was so glad to read that the President decided to cut three million children off of food stamps. I'm tired of my taxes being wasted on non-essential things like food, shelter and clothing. Why not take the money wasted on children and put it to productive use like more tax cuts for trillionaires? The truth is you can't end hunger by giving people food because that only prolongs the problem. Food handouts ruin people’s ability to forage in the wild. We don't want poor people to grow dependent on food.
How about a market bias solution to the hunger problem? De-fund those sad school lunch programs and instead give kids vouchers for "Happy Meals." You know why those meals are so happy? They've got so many calories that you only need to eat once a day. Think of the savings!
Ending free food handouts will help bottom out the obesity crisis. I'll admit that some so-called "poor people" are forced to choose between buying food and medicine, so let's cut the government programs for both and then they won't have to decide. But I digress.
Remember when President Carter gave away government surplus cheese? Cheese sales plummeted putting millions of American cows out of work. Free food handouts will hurt the bottom line of some of America’s biggest corporations and think of all the food pantries and soup kitchens that will have to go out of business! The truth is we just can't afford to end hunger in the middle of a trade war.
Some say these cuts show that when it comes to people, Republicans just don't care, but I don't care. Liberal attitudes about poverty are so hypocritical. On the one hand they give away free food and healthcare and on the other hand they complain about overpopulation. You can't have your cake and eat it too, not if your plan is to let poor people eat it.
