Tired of remakes/reboots yet? Me neither! Francis Ford Coppola's classic gangster series The Godfather will see a top-to-bottom reboot, but with an updated inclusive title, which is said to be gender neutral. The Godparent will likely see a theatrical release as early as 2020.
"The Godfather is certainly a legendary film, but it was feels out of date in current year," said Coppola. "The film came out in 1972 when transphobia, racism, and misogyny, and homophobia, ran rampant in society. We need to show the world that the film industry and mafiosos have changed."
The tentative title for the remake is called The Godparent. As of this writing, Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones has been assigned to direct the film. This is set to be her Hollywood directorial debut.
"People are never going to forgot this reboot, just like with Ghostbusters in 2016," said Jones. "People better recognize that The Godfather is an outdated name. We no longer cater to the patriarchy here. The lead actor could be a transgender woman of color. I may even star in this film myself."
